The National Memorial Chorten stupa, constructed in 1974, stands as a tribute to Bhutan’s third King, His Late Majesty, King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, who is affectionately known as the Father of modern Bhutan. Within this sacred monument, the exquisite paintings and statues offer profound insights into the essence of Buddhist philosophy.

Day 4: Journey from Thimphu to Paro & Exploration of Paro
Following breakfast, embark on your journey to Paro, with a visit to the revered Tamchog Lhakhang along the way.
Tamchog Lhakhang is a temple honoring the 13th-century saint Thangthong Gyalpo, renowned as the bridge builder. This sacred site is situated across the river from the route connecting Paro to Thimphu. To reach the temple, one must traverse an iron chain bridge, a rare remnant of the numerous bridges constructed by Thangthong Gyalpo.
Upon arrival in Paro, check into your hotel. In the afternoon, indulge in a sightseeing tour of Paro, which includes:
Ta Dzong, originally a watchtower designed to protect Rinpung Dzong during the inter-valley conflicts of the 17th century, has been serving as the National Museum of Bhutan since 1967. It boasts a captivating collection of art, relics, religious thangka paintings, and Bhutan’s exquisite postage stamps. The museum’s circular architecture enhances the diverse exhibits displayed across multiple floors.
Rinpung Dzong, constructed in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the inaugural spiritual and temporal leader of Bhutan, serves as the residence for the monastic community of Paro, as well as the offices of the Dzongda (district administrative head) and Thrimpon (judge) of Paro district. Access to the Dzong is via a traditional covered bridge known as Nemi Zam. A stroll across this bridge, along a stone-inlaid path, provides a splendid view of the Dzong’s architectural marvel and the vibrant life surrounding it. This site also hosts the annual Paro Tshechu, celebrated each spring.
Later, return to your hotel for an overnight stay in Paro.
(Meals: Breakfast)
Day 5: Day Excursion to Taktshang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest Monastery)
Begin your day at dawn for an exhilarating hike to Taktsang Lhakhang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery) – This uphill trek, which takes approximately 2 to 3 hours one way, winds through enchanting pine forests. Taktshang Lhakhang (Tiger’s Nest) stands as one of Bhutan’s most renowned monasteries, dramatically situated on a cliff 900 meters above the serene Paro valley floor. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche arrived at this sacred site riding a tigress and meditated here, which is why it is affectionately known as “Tiger’s Nest.” This revered location has been acknowledged as a holy site, having been visited by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646, and continues to attract visitors from all over Bhutan.
